Re: 1966 Chinese Type 56 from Factory /26. the only commercial grade items are the non Military like the D and others that importers came up with. Chinese Military sks Parts can be stamped, Milled, or cast but meet Military Specs those parts are shipped to assembly shops and made into Military guns.

Using the book's reference guide on Chinese Type 56 SKS manufacturer codes, I located a "26" inside a triangle and determined that the rifle was manufactured at Factory 26 (Jianshe Arsenal), located in the city of Chongqing.
My interest in the SKS is strictly as a shooter, although there are signs that the SKS is beginning to be collected by fanciers of Cold War small arms. My little SKS is a Chinese Type 56 made in 1966 at everyone's favorite Chinese arms factory, the picturesquely-named "Factory 26" in Jianshe.
This is a Factory 26 Chinese SKS rifle Cal. 7.62x39. According to the serial number the rifle was manufactured at the Arsenal in 1966. Rifle has all stamped matching serial numbered parts: receiver, stock, bolt, receiver cover, bolt carrier, magazine and trigger guard. Gas tube is matching via electric pencil. Bore is bright with sharp lands.
Chinese type 56 factory 26 1968 no import markings, all matching. When I got it, the "story" is it's a bring back.. of course, no papers. BUT It has a bulged muzzle, like it was fired with mud in it and it swelled a few thouhs.
Chinese Norinco Type 56 SKS. Just picked up a used factory 26 type 56 SKS. It is supposedly a Vietnam War bring back (no paperwork). No import markings. The closest I can tell it was manufactured in 1967. The stock is pretty beat up, but the bore and finish are still in good shape. For the price I had to adopt it.

The Factory code tells all. If the factory code is in a Triangle its military, if the factory code is in a square or oval it is commercial. The chinese had well over 20 factories making these things all over the country. Some factory codes were changed frequently though it was the same factory.
